Pierre Louÿs - Les Chansons de Bilitis.

Les Chansons de Bilitis: 'The eyes'

Like Aphrodite emerging from of the waves, Bilitis, well known greek courtesan born from Pierre Louÿs' imagination, could not fail to inspire the painter Saint-Geniès.
In 12 original lithographs, all in restrained sensuality, colour after colour, he draws us into this pamphilistic VIth century where beauty was synonymous of the Eternal Feminine.
Hand set in foundry type Chancery Medium 14 point, with a print run of 130 copies numbered in Roman numerals on finest paper Vélin de Rives, each lithograph is signed by the Artist.
Edited in the 150th aniversary year of the foundation of the Athens French School, 150 copies numbered in Arabic numerals on finest paper Rives Classic recall the event. One of the 12 lithographs is signed by the Artist.
The text and the illustrations were printed on Pierre Jean Mathan's Press. The work, in quarto royal size (25 x 32 cm), is presented on loose leaves in a Bernard Duval box. Some copies may be bound on demand and presented in a slipcase.
