d'Art: eleven years, eleven books and ... a web site.
The
Editions Carrés d'Art I founded
eleven years ago are the fruit of a careful consideration.
In the course of my career in
the world of Art Book, quality and
genuineness have always attracted me.
Genuineness and quality of a great
paper, genuineness and quality of fine
typography,
genuineness and quality of an illustration,
using noble processes: engraving on
wood, or copper
with different techniques, original lithography
... and at last genuineness and quality of a true material for a
possible binding:
parchment, goat, sheep ...
Now,
on the verge of the third millenium, we enter a more and more
virtual world. Technical
progress makes it possible to reproduce a whole encyclopedia on a
single CD-ROM. To get a mere information, we will need a
screen and a keyboard. But the longing for
dream is still firmly rooted within each of us. Only the book,
and especially Art Book, can quench this
thirst, for he still requires high quality material and is made by
proud Craftmen, heirs of a long
tradition.
The
Editions Carrés d'Art opened
WebLibris
on their tenth anniversary for all these reasons, in order to give
painters the opportunity to keep expressing themselves, to keep
craftmen alive and for the Art
Book to remain a privileged witness of time passing and the
best medium for our dreams. We
actually believe that tradition and modernism, far from opposing
themselves, do strengthen each other, the first giving the other the
roots for them both to be cast towards future.
