Nerval - Les Chimères

Les Chimères

Gérard de Nerval gave the painter Francis de Lassus Saint-Geniès the inspiration for 22 illustrations.Things couldn't have been different: the painter is a great-grandson of Charles Gounod, who set to music Goethe's Faust which was translated by the poet.
Choosing the lithography, color after color, sometimes up to 13 ones, with a deeply moving complicity transcending time, he induces us to dream, bathed by the light of the Dark sun of Melancholy, quoting the poet.
Hand set in foundry type 18 point Plantin, the edition consists of 200 numbered copies on finest papers: Moulin du Gué and Vélin de Rives. The text and the lithographs, all signed by the Artist, are from Pierre Jean Mathan's press.
The work, in quarto royal size (25 x 32 cm) is presented on loose leaves in a Bernard Duval box.
